Description

Brand New: Rheumatology Opportunity - Western Mass (Berkshires)!!
Medical Center currently has two full time rheumatologists, working 5 days per week. One physician is relocating to the southwest, thus creating the vacancy for which we are recruiting. The physician sees an average of 15 to 18 patients per day. The office is on the campus of the Medical Center and is staffed with two physicians, one nurse and two and a half people in the front office. The Rheumatology service started in November, 2001, with one physician and grew with the second physician a several years ago.

The Medical Center's primary service area consists of approximately 150,000 residents. For a service such as rheumatology, where little inpatient care is required, that population of the service area will increase beyond traditional boundaries. The service will draw from people in communities that would not normally consider the Medical Center for in-patient admission.

The current rheumatology service is based largely on outpatient visits. There are some inpatient consultations at the Medical Center. The is no after hours on call requirement at this time.

The physician who is accepted for this position must be high energy with a strong desire to assist in continuing to care for patients in this busy practice. Both of the current physicians have full panels, so the Candidate selected to replace the relocating Physician will step into a busy practice schedule. A new physician will participate in marketing, public relations, and community education programs in order to introduce themselves to the referring physicians, community-based professionals, and potential patients. These contacts will be coordinated by the Public Relations Dept. at the Medical Center and through the administrative support staff for the practice. Being comfortable with public speaking to groups and with on-camera media requests is preferable as Physicians are occasionally called upon by the local media sources (TV) for on-camera interviews. Board Certification is required for an
experienced physician; Board eligibility will be acceptable for a graduating Fellow, with the understanding that Board Certification must be achieved within 2 years. Physician must be a skilled medical professional and have a dynamic presence on a personal level.

Salary is negotiable and will be determined based upon the experience and Board Certification status of the applicant. A full benefit package, which includes health, dental, life, disability and malpractice insurance, is included. Time off benefits include 4 weeks of vacation, 10 holidays, 1 week for CME. There is an annual allowance for CME programs. Relocation expenses to a pre-determined maximum will also be provided.

The region is in the foothills of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Outstanding private schools at all levels (elementary, secondary, college) and excellent public colleges are available in close proximity to the Medical Center. The cost of living in Western Massachusetts is significantly less than eastern Massachusetts. The Medical Center is located at the junction of major north/south and east/west highway systems for ease in traveling to the cities and shore.
