Laboratory Medical Director

The laboratory focuses on moderate and high complexity testing to help guide daily wellness behaviors. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Medical Director.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
" Directs and coordinates the strategy and operations of laboratory. Interfaces with key stakeholders and senior leadership in accomplishing business objectives.
" Accountable for the leadership and management functions of the laboratory with a focus on creativity, innovation, efficient and effective delivery of services, and providing consumer-centric healthcare and wellness services.
" Responsible for operationalizing the laboratory's strategic planning goals, meeting fiscal responsibilities and exceeding regulatory requirements.
" Implements and oversees quality control (QC) and quality assessment (QA) programs for laboratory services. Works with staff to identify, investigate and correct failures in quality.
" Provides exceptional leadership in implementing and improving functional metrics for quality in all areas of the lab as a continuous driver in the quality management program.
" Assists in establishing laboratory standards of performance, quality control and quality assessments. Ensures that performance characteristics for tests have been properly verified; and that testing personnel are performing the test methods as required to produce accurate and reliable results.
" Works with the laboratory team to ensure that the laboratory passes proficiency testing. If relevant, ensures that all unacceptable and/or unsatisfactory PT results are investigated and that corrective action is taken and documented.
" Participates in employing competent laboratory personnel and interviews potential staff by phone and/or in person.
" Ensures personnel have been appropriately trained and demonstrate competency in all phases (preanalytic, analytic, post analytic) prior to testing patient specimens.
" Provides oversight of technical performance of clinical laboratory personnel including ensuring that a competency assessment protocol is established and followed.
" Collaborates in the development and scientific/clinical validation of tests. Provides scientific direction, technical and administrative oversight in the development of the LDTs.
" Represents Company as it's laboratory director to NY State Department of Health/Center in the application and onsite survey.
" Available for consultation on technical and interpretive questions. Provides onsite, telephone or electronic consultation as needed.
Qualifications:
" Hold and maintain New York State M.D. or D.O. licensure in good standing.
" Hold and maintain New York State Laboratory Director Certificate of Qualifications in the following categories:
o Clinical chemistry
o Endocrinology
o Hematology
o Diagnostic immunology
o Genetic testing
" At least two years documented work experience directing and supervising high complexity testing
" As mandated under New York Department of Health regulations
o Able and willing to commit to no temporary absences of greater than or equal to three works within the next two years
o Able and willing to commit to providing adequate hours on site at the current laboratory location, "commensurate with the laboratory workload, scope and complexity of test procedures, qualifications of on-site personnel, and availability of alternate monitoring and communication capabilities."
o As sole laboratory director, they allocate and give preference to Company in the relevant permit categories (under the limit of two clinical laboratories) in the pertinent specialties within the CLIA database.
